The PSB Registered Nursing School Aptitude Examination (PSB-RNSAE) is a measure to assess the readiness or chance of success of an individual for the nursing educational program. This instrument includes four multiple-choice subtests that measure skills essential for success, while the fifth subtest evaluates personality and lifestyle traits. Reliability and Validity

The PSB-NSAE test manual stated varied reliability and good validity.  Over a 10 to 30 days time interval, the rest-test coefficients ranges from 0.89 (Vocational Adjustment Index) to 0.98.  While test-retest reliability was very high, the intercorrelations for the ability subscales (Academic Aptitude, Spelling Natural Sciences, and Judgment in Practical Nursing Situations) were very low with an average of 0.33.  Validity was investigated by comparing test scores on the PSB-NSAE with the nurses GPA after 6 months of training.  Validity correlations were reported as following:  0.79 for academic Aptitude, 0.61 for Spelling, 0.81 for Reading Comprehension, 0.76 for Natural Sciences, and 0.59 for Vocational Adjustment.
